Real name Jacob Vetter, JATA’s music combines influences from the music he grew up on – R&B and 90s hip-hop – and melds them into an European-leaning electronic sound. With soft-focused verses and a hard-hitting chorus, ‘Mephisto’ is an ode to one of the chief trouble-makers in traditional German literature. ‘Looking in your eyes was a sweet surprise, why can’t it be true, I can almost feel that you’re haunting me, why can’t it be real’ sings Vetter, over increasingly intense electronica. ‘Mephisto’ is the new single from JATA’s debut album, Mexico. -HM
