JAKOB OGAWA LET IT PASS

A year ago, Jakob Ogawa made his first online appearance with ‘You’ll Be On My Mind’, and although that song has been taken down, what remains is the 19-year-old’s refreshingly lo-fi, nostalgic retro-pop sensibility that has dripped down into the previously featured ‘All Your Love’ and newest single ‘Let It Pass’. Ogawa once again employs his transportive power in the delicately plucked strings and mournful vocals which long for the past. In a supposed chorus, soft touch percussion and surf guitars back up layers of dreamy vocals that recount the line, “think I’ll let it pass away, so in love with yesterday.” At two minutes and six seconds, ‘Let It Pass’ is a short, bittersweet and highly compelling piece of off-kilter, fuzzy-edged, melody-driven indie-pop that has us falling further for this young Norwegian talent. - HT
