‘Trust Fall’ is easily the stand-out track from HANA ACBD’s Shortcomings EP, a collection of nine songs “about being alone in a big city, love and the lack of it and shortcomings in life.” The experience that Hannah Acabado has taken her musical inspiration from is the sizeable move from her home country of The Philippines to the USA, and more specfically to Los Angeles. While her pop sensibility fits perfectly into the West Coast sound, it’s not always so easy to feel settled in a new environment. In ‘Trust Fall’, her sugary R&B-leaning voice chronicles trusting another and the fear that it entails, while the track itself is a surface-calm of dance rhythms. In case you’re worried that HANA ACBD would be left falling through this electronic-pop production forever, guest vocalist Philip Verzosa steps in with his suitably Romeo-esque tone.
