With the likes of Loyle Carner, Fliptrix, K Koke hitting the scene, UK Hip-Hop has once again come front and centre stage. New collectives are springing up and down the country, the latest of which is Leeds-based Gotts Street Park. On their debut release, titled ‘This World’, the group have teamed up with up-and-coming London rapper Benny Mails, and the results are mighty impressive. Having earned their stripes working with the likes of Mabel, Cosima and Kali Uchis, Gotts Street Park have crafted a supremely chilled and atmospheric production style, which contrasts nicely with Mails’ spiky bars. The whole thing has a remarkably old school feel, in part due to the fact that the collective perform and record all their material live in one room. ‘This World’ is out via Blue Flowers, the label also responsible for launching the careers of Nilüfer Yanya and Joe Fox. With the backing of a pop-facing label and with beats as strong as ‘This World’, things are looking exciting for Gotts Street Park. -HM
