PREMIERE

GIRL AS WAVE SPEED OF LIGHT

Not all that long ago we were introduced to the feedback-fueled dreamy pop sound of Girl As Wave with her track ‘Polaroid’. Now, we’re proud to premiere ‘Speed Of Light’ from this increasingly promising New Yorker. This new single plays out the live fast die young trope with utmost energy, attitude, and fuzzy aesthetics. The opening is reckless and bold: a series of haughty guitar strums that ring out into dominating drums. Girl As Wave’s vocals are as slick, enthralling and badass as ever. The moody verses come back-to-back with with No Doubt-esque choruses, which you could easily imagine floating out across the speakers of Empire Records. As those hints would allude, listening to ‘Speed Of Light’ is like stepping in to the mid 90s where grunge culture and teenage angst ruled. The nostalgia lies entirely in the East Coast indie-rock style, while the driving force behind the track comes from futures unknown. As Girl As Wave tells us, “Speed Of Light is a song I wrote with producer/multi-instrumentalist, Jimmy Deer. I found that the lyrics were dictated by the guitar and drum sounds. It became a song about living with eyes closed and hopefully getting them open before suffering a self-imposed disaster." - HT
