GEMS are not your everyday alternative pop group. The pair, made up of Lindsay Pitts and Clifford John Usher have been delivering darkly emotive pop for over four years now, starting with 2013’s Medusa, and most recently their song series Every Full Moon. ‘Peacefully’ is GEMS’ fourth release from this latest project, and continues their incredibly expressive and honest take on a break up. The track contrasts hazy, shimmering guitars with the whispering chorus: ‘Leave me peacefully, I don’t feel like fighting anymore, I am not your lover anymore.’ Speaking about the track, GEMS say “One thing we both recognized in the process of breaking up was the need for compassion in situations of conflict and change.” This maturity carries both in subject and feel of ‘Peacefully’ – GEMS continue to prove that they are capable of alternative pop at its most sophisticated, reflective and mellow. -HM
