EVALYN A PILL TO CRUSH

As part of her forthcoming Salvation EP, Evalyn shares the multi-textured hymn ‘A Pill To Crush’. Bright, reverberated guitars spike through a psychedelic haze of dizzy synths, heavy drums and Evalyn’s apathetic femme-fatale voice. For two and a half minutes, we swim through a slacker-pop vibe via the lens of hallucinogenics, and it’s a thoroughly intoxicating sound. Then Evalyn nudges us into the ether with a refrain of trap beats and floating vocal loops; this intersection weaves around clicks, bleeps, ticks and whispered voices. Before we lose touch with reality entirely, Evalyn swings back around to the gritty bass-heavy noise as she breathily declares, 'I took everything they gave me, / I’m still begging for more'. As the Los Angeles-based artist tells us, this infatuation with narcotics relates to “One of the central themes [of the EP, which] is the idea of trying to find something to save you, whether it’s religion or a cult or anything else you might worship.” Evalyn’s Salvation EP is set to drop on September 28th. - Hannah Thacker
