ELSA CARMONA RUN BABY RUN

After her debut track ‘Ritual’ stunned with its unpredictability, Swedish-based Elsa Carmona proves that her brand of dark, twisted pop is here to stay with ‘Run Baby Run’. First premiered on Clash, ‘Run Baby Run’ opens with a Radiohead-inspired haze of warped electronic beats and bass. Set against this are Carmona’s airy, haunting vocals which have been cleverly distorted to bring a cold, distant element to the track. The track has serious hints of BANKS and FKA twigs in its twisted textures. It therefore comes as no surprise that the producer behind it, Fredrik Okazaki, is also responsible for the edgier tracks of Naomi Pilgrim and Robyn. Speaking about the song, Carmona says “It’s a song about overthrowing any kind of dominant power, and it’s a song about revenge.” With a track as dark, brooding and confident as ‘Run Baby Run’, it’s clear that Carmona’s goals are far from unattainable. – HM
