DEMO TAPED STAY

Beckoning through an imaginative, futuristic production in new release ‘Stay’, the 18-year-old Adam Alexander, known to us as demo taped, repeatedly asks “Won’t you stay a little while?” in a classic R&B vocal which is near impossible to refuse. A request it appears Amber Mark took up as she lends her dusky tones to the track, an addition which demo taped praises, because “She captured the mood and the meaning of the song perfectly.” That mood and meaning being one of loss and change, but wishing that things could stay the same: “It is trying to cope and move on, but also a plea for things to stay the same.” Change is something that the Atlanta singer/writer/producer has long been afraid of, an anxiety heard not so much in his voice, which stays mostly in control, but through the unusual electronics which manifest as fluttering dischords and nervous squeaks at the high end, and ominous blooms of bass at the low end. As far as alternative R&B goes, 'Stay' is one to stick around for. - HT
