Hailing from Victoria, BC, nineteen-year-old COTIS is lighting up the Canadian R&B scene. The nineteen-year-old isn’t afraid to touch on topical issues – ‘Phone Light Up’ is an ode to everything challenging about relationships in the modern era, with COTIS singing: ‘your phone light up…baby tell me what’s come over you’. That aside, the track is a minimal, synth heavy urban-pop crossover with plenty of bite. While this is a sound many may associate with inner-city circles, it’s interesting therefore to know that COTIS is coming out of an upcoming underground scene happening in suburban areas.
