BRUNO MAJOR THE FIRST THING YOU SEE

Long term behind-the-scenes songwriter Bruno Major recently took to the internet to share music that is entirely his own. So far, we’ve enjoyed the sweet jazz-noted sounds of tracks ‘Wouldn’t Mean A Thing’ and ‘There’s Little Left’, but his third public release ‘The First Thing You See’ transports us back to the early beginnings of this artist as it’s actually one of the first songs he ever wrote. If only all our first attempts could be this good. In vein with previous tracks, the opening of ‘The First Thing You See’ is all about well-produced simplicity from the perspective of a hopeful romantic. In the first few seconds, a quiet shimmer of sound beckons us to listen a little closer before a Spanish-style guitar sequence and Major’s hushed vocals introduce this loved-up narrative. Through the dexterous instrumentation, this London-via-Northampton musician paints an image of two young lovers with resonant layers of his own vocals, especially in lines like “As I kissed your tired shoulder, as we spill our minds again, over our future, growing older.” Although this song was sat around gathering dust for a while, it took an extraordinarily short amount of time to complete, which Major explains, “'The First Thing You See' was one of the first songs I ever wrote. One of those rare moments where I could see through to the end as I was writing it, it took all of half an hour to finish. We're old friends, this song and I. It feels wonderful to be letting it go." - HT
