BIRTHDAY CATHEDRALS

birthday is one of those names you will have probably heard a lot around the blogosphere this year as it was only eight months ago that this 21-year-old talent made his debut with a fistful of gauzy electronic-pop tunes. Then just last month we covered ‘Parade’, a surprising nod to ‘90s garage that details his move from his familial home in Florida to the West Coast. That move was clearly a productive one for the developing producer who found his bedroom in Oakland to be the perfect place to compile his Subtle Love EP, which was recently completed with the addition of ‘Cathedrals’, a breezy bit of indie-pop which, according to Duran Visek, is “about the dynamics of love, being in love and youthful adventures.” Visek’s feather-light vocals which are easily carried by the evocative indie-rock percussion, surfy guitars and glowing electronics - both flowing synthetic melodies and ticking beats. Everything is moving upward in this song, towards a cathedral-like peak that at the end fades away into the air. - HT
