BAD WITH PHONES KISS THE MATTER

Today sees the release of Bad With Phones’ experimental debut EP, Bang Bang Chicken, which was apparently recorded in a shed with friends with the title alluding to that creative process - as the London/Berlin based artist explains, "Bang Bang Chicken is what happens when the brains down at BWP HQ collide. They sit down in the boardroom and decide what’s next - that’s when they’re not making pina coladas for everyone in the office, of course." Now before we dive into the EP further, let’s give you a refresher of exactly who Bad With Phones is. Manny Folorunso is a hacker, songwriter, producer, dog enthusiast and food critic, who used be be one-half of South London duo A O S O O N (check out our review of that band’s track ‘High Grade’ here), but this project marks a new direction for Folorunso. Our favourite track from the BWP EP is ‘Kiss The Matter’, a minimalist electronic track that showcases those unique vocals against a backdrop of swirling synths, tinny computer beats and club-bound bass. It’s certainly reminiscent of fellow polymath Mined, but even with a comparison in hand, the sound that Manny delivers through Bad With Phones has an individual fingerprint, especially in songs like ‘Kiss The Matter’. - Hannah Thacker
