The year has just begun and we’re already seeing huge single, EP and now album releases thanks to Awful Records’ signee Alexandria. The Atlanta vocalist-songwriter has teamed up with distinct production talent Ethereal for her first album, Cut Of Cloth. Synchronised creatives Alexandria and Ethereal have worked on projects together in the past, but the journey to this LP began in early 2015 - a time when Alexandria found herself in an unhappy relationship, but discovered strength and happiness through the songwriting process for both this album and 2015’s Promise EP. Her conclusion: “I learned that until the right one comes into my life, I alone am enough.” Many emotions and states of revelation can be heard throughout this album, which as a whole sounds mystical, moody and aesthetically certain of itself. In particular, the title track 'Cut Of Cloth' is brimming with gossamer samples, a slick cycle of staccato trap beats, lo-fi effects, and Alexandria’s angelic voice which possesses range from feathery falsetto to soulful lows. She even verges on spoken word/rap at points; possibly influenced by the unmissable hip-hop scene of her hometown. Listening to 'Cut Of Cloth' you’ll find yourself lost among the woozy production and alluring vocals, and unable to resist the rest of Alexandria’s enchanting songs. - HT
