Last year, Aaron Taos proposed his string-led soul pop style with debut GUITS EP, a release that has just been followed by new single ‘Off My Mind’. The repetitive nature of Taos’ first track of the year echoes the lyrics “over and over again in my thoughts,” furthered by a déjà vu of buttery synths, ticking beats and soulful vocals. This constant cycle of sounds and sentiments can cause the listeners themselves to feel wrapped in an emotional trance of their own, heads bopping to this bouncy tune. Outside of the catchy choruses, ‘Off My Mind’ is also a song about the fear of history repeating itself. From the opening phrase “I don’t know” to the confessional verse line “I’ve been burned before”, Taos expresses uncertainty about entering a new relationship and thus is stuck in his own real-life tape loop.
